Supporting everyone in Linton during Covid-19

Parish Councillor Julie Urquhart is coordinating the volunteer effort to support those in need of help during the Covid-19 outbreak. We are working with the Maidstone Borough Council Community Hub team to provide support to local residents in the parish. All Linton households should have received a leaflet a couple of weeks ago with Julie’s contact details. Even if you don’t need help right now, keep these details to hand in case you require help in the coming weeks. They are copied below.

We can support those in need with the following: grocery shopping, collecting prescriptions, medication or other essential supplies, and keep-in-touch phone calls. We are also able to help medical staff and other key workers if they are in need of help with grocery shopping etc.

If you are able to volunteer to help those who are self-isolating, please get in touch and we will add you to our list of volunteers. While we are currently able to cope with the demand for assistance, we anticipate this will increase, so if you’re able to help it will be much needed over the coming weeks. We know that lots of residents are already helping their neighbours and family members, so just a few reminders on staying safe while supporting others:

  • Only volunteer if you are well enough and not self-isolating or in a high-risk group yourself.
  • Wash your hands for 20 seconds both before and after going out on errands.
  • Stay at least two metres away from the people you’re helping.
  • Do not enter people’s homes.

PC Chairman Bernard Cresswell writes:
Parish Council Meetings have been cancelled until further notice as per Government advice and instructions from the National Association of Local Councils (NALC). In order to make that happen the Parish Council adopted the HIGH CONSEQUENCE INFECTIOUS DISEASE POLICY that permits Parish Council business to be conducted via email. This temporary way of doing business will be used sparingly so that non essential matters can be dealt with at a later stage. Any matters that you think should be brought to our attention then please contact any Councillor. Litter picks have been cancelled until further notice so please be mindful and refrain from collecting rubbish outside your home as the virus is known to survive on hard surfaces for a few days….,wash your hands frequently and disinfect handle to front doors and gates!
The 2020 Parish Annual Meetings held all over the country have also been cancelled for this year. However, we are attempting to pull the reports together in any event and if able to we will have them up on the website for all to read, so watch this space for any updates.

Please adhere to the government instructions and hopefully we can stay safe.
